WHAT'S INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN PROCESS?
READ BELOW TO FIND OUT
Our focus is on using local suppliers for our materials as well as recycled gold to bring you an ethical and sustainable jewellery choice. Don't let the process scare you. We make it as simple as possible.
1. DESIGN
Design your dream piece either in house in our Melbourne Studio with our team or via email or over the phone. You can hand select your dream ring, as well as your dream diamond or semi precious stone
2. SIGN OFF
After your consultation our team will develop a digital mock up of your ring with details specs including size, metal to be used and a digital copy will be emailed to you before we start making your ring so you know exactly how the end product will look.
3. CASTING
A method of shaping metal by melting and then pouring into a hollow mould. One of the oldest jewellery making techniques which has been used for hundreds of years.
The process of casting begins with the wax design or print out of the finalised design. When we have the wax model it is placed inside a canister and then filled with 'investment' or a type of plaster. Next the plaster into an oven until the plaster is hard. As the plaster is hardening in the oven, the wax design that is inside is melting away. What is left with is a hardened plaster and an empty cavity where the wax model once was. Molten hot metal is then used to fill that cavity and take the shape of the jewellery design. Once the molten metal is hardened the canister is placed into a bucket of cold water. This causes the plaster to break down and fall away from the hard metal piece of rough jewellery.
Once this process is finished we are left with rough 'castings' of your piece of jewellery ready for sanding and polishing.
4. SANDING + POLISHING
We then start to bring the rough, course, unfinished castings to life and the shiny mirror finish you all know. We do this by sanding, sanding sanding, polishing, polishing, polishing. Over and over to get that mirror finish.
5. STONE SETTING
Next we safely and securely set your stones in place. This is one of the most important parts of the process and must be handled with precision.
6. FINAL TOUCHES
Our final touches include a big bath for your new ring, including a dip in rhodium (where necessary) to give your piece one last final chance to be the brightest, most shiny new beauty. We also undergo a final clean, polish and quality inspection
